Will I need planning permission?

Generally no, however typical exceptions to this rule are likely to be:
Listed buildings or buildings subject to preservation orders.
Areas on Nil Permitted Development where any permitted development rights are removed by the local authority.
Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) or conservation areas.
Installations requiring building over/or alterations to existing foul sewers or mains services.
As of April 2002 you will however need to pay a one off Building
Regulation fee of 70.50 if your are having any replacement windows or doors fitted.
